Innomine is proud of the successful closure of the GreenPet Experiment as part of the AI REGIO Project. This experiment, designed to monitor and control the eco-friendly quality of the PET bottle manufacturing process using the DATA4AI platform, was implemented as a result of an intense 8-month collaboration between Centroplast D.O.O (a partner manufacturing SME in Serbia), Ada System Doo Novi Sad (a partner in IT, Serbia), and Innomine DIH (acting as the DIH in CEE, based in Hungary).
The experiment addressed the EU-wide challenge of increasing market pressure on manufacturing SMEs in the EU, requiring them to be both highly competitive and eco-friendly. In the domain of manufacturing PET products this aspect is extremely important since manufacturing PET generates more toxic emissions (nickel, ethylbenzene, ethylene oxide, benzene) than manufacturing glass. Producing a 16 oz. PET bottle generates more than 100 times the toxic emissions to air and water than making the same size bottle out of glass. GreenPET paves the way for generating a new generation of monitoring and analyzing services for PET bottle manufacturing, which are focused not only on the processes performances (KPIs), but also on the eco-friendliness of the process. It enables a prompt reaction on any quality issue which might arise during the production (e.g. a rapid increase in the emission values). The AI-based software-hardware infrastructure of GreenPET enables a comprehensive monitoring, analysis and control of the eco-friendly quality of the PET bottle manufacturing process, through focusing on two main factors, which also define its environmental footprint: Energy and Emission, meanwhile the system is flexible and open for extensions, like introducing sensors for waste management (e.g. camera-based visual inspection).
Economic Impacts: The impacts of the system are both economic and environmental. Economically, there are savings achieved by reducing waste material due to quality problems and by extending the lifespan and usage of the machinery.
Environmental Impacts: From environmental perspective, the system helps in avoiding hazards that could negatively affect the environment, like dust, sound, and CO2 emissions.
Benefits for Manufacturing SMEs: For manufacturing SMEs, this pilot offers several benefits, including improvements in process quality and efficiency. Furthermore, it paves the way for a more affordable transformation of these SMEs towards Industry 4.0.
Solution Design: It’s crucial to emphasize that the solution is designed to be easily deployable and cost-effective. It is applicable in various domains, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of applications.
